“Skeletal and Dental Abnormalities at a Prehistoric Central California Site”

Michael R. Fong and David G. Brittin

Abstract

This presentation provides a survey of the skeletal and oral paleopathology found in a prehistoric population from archaeological site ALA-42, located in present-day Pleasanton. These conditions were produced by both pathological and activity-induced processes. A small sample of conditions, including individuals affected by acute fracture, bacterial and fungal infection, and dental grooving, are represented at this site. Causative factors and behavioral implications are explored.
