News and Announcements
- The California Archaeological Site Stewardship Program (CASSP), is a SCA program to train and support volunteers who help protect cultural resources on public lands by making regular visits toassigned sites. To support many of the program's activities, the US Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is submitting a grant application to the Off-Highway Motorized Vehicle Recreation Division of California State Parks. The public can review and comment on this application from March 6, 2012, to April 2, 2012, by visiting the OHMVR Division web site at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. Additional information about CASSP can be found at www.cassp.org.
- Moments in Time: Exhibition of San Diego History
The San Diego Archaeological Center is pleased to present this exhibit, which recounts significant events in American history as experienced by one San Diegan, Blanche F. Wright. The artifacts record Blanche's personal life as well as her participation in the work force during and after WWII. Her occupation as a nurse explains the medical equipment and medications that appear in Blanche's collection alongside some typical household items. Archaeologists were able to identify Blanche from historical records, but it is her recovered belongings that tell us about her personality and lifestyle. Although her written records may be lost, our understanding of Blanche is enhanced by something as simple as a treasured doll or a perfume bottle.
