Position: Principal Archaeologist, The Presidio Trust
Serves as director of the Presidio Archaeology Program which includes Excavation & Analysis; Curation & Exhibition; Research & Publication; Site Preservation & Interpretation; and Education & Outreach. Responsible for making significant contributions to execution of long-term strategic and annual archaeological goals; providing expertise and direction for compliance with NEPA and Section 106 of the NHPA in support of major projects and planning initiatives; planning for the future Presidio Archaeology Center at the Main Post, a facility that will build on existing programs that currently support a number of volunteer, visitor, and educational opportunities. Has significant responsibilities for developing public presentations and scholarly publications that are engaging and effectively communicate the Archaeology Center's goals, research, and findings to multiple audiences. The UCSB Department of Anthropology invites applications for a position in archaeology, rank open, beginning July 1, 2009. We seek a scholar specializing in the archaeology of California with strong preference for someone who works on the Santa Barbara Channel Islands and the Santa Barbara region generally. The successful candidate will employ an ecological theoretical perspective and have the ability to manage the terminal MA program and the undergraduate internship program in California as well as supervising the Repository and Central Coast Information Center. Teaching will include both undergraduate and graduate courses, including an undergraduate class on North American Indians (ANTH 131). We are also seeking someone willing to offer an archaeological field school on a rotating basis with one other faculty member. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. by the date of the appointment. The selected candidate must have a working relationship with the San Diego Natural History Museum and must be recognized by the Museum as a qualified Principal Investigator.
